We are currently seeking a highly driven team player to join our Intelligence team in Calgary, AB. This role offers the opportunity to join a rapidly growing company partnering with customers in the world’s most dynamic and fastest-growing sector. Enverus is the right company at the right time.
As an Associate on this team, you will hold a dual focus: providing equity coverage on Distributed Generation (DG) developers and Investor-Owned Utilities (IOUs), while conducting deep market research into the Commercial & Industrial (C&I) load landscape. Crucially, you will act as a commercial interface, progressively taking ownership of client interactions to drive team efficiency and scalability.
Performance Objectives
  • Autonomous Client Management: Take ownership of incoming client inquiries and routine research requests, serving as a primary point of contact to significantly reduce senior team workload and increase overall team bandwidth.
  • Lead Client Engagements: Independently lead conference calls and presentations with institutional investors and corporate strategy teams, articulating thesis work on the future of the distributed grid and utility business models with confidence and authority.
  • Equity Coverage & Financial Modeling: Build and maintain detailed financial models (NAV, DCF, earnings estimates) for public companies, specifically focusing on Investor Owned Utilities (IOUs), distributed generation developers, and energy services companies.
  • C&I Market Research & Load Intelligence: Conduct deep-dive market research into the Commercial & Industrial sector to analyze load shapes, procurement strategies, corporate PPA trends, and the economic drivers behind behind-the-meter energy adoption.
  • Distributed Energy Ecosystem Analysis: Research and communicate the intricacies of distributed generation technologies (C&I solar, onsite storage, fuel cells, microgrids) and the distinct business models of the entities deploying them.
  • Utility & Grid Edge Dynamics: Analyze the interplay between regulated utilities and distributed assets, including rate base growth strategies, grid modernization investments, and the regulatory impacts on net metering and interconnection.
Competitive Candidate Profile
  • Proven Client-Facing Experience: Demonstrated confidence and ability to lead discussions with external stakeholders/clients. You must be comfortable fielding complex questions and managing relationships without constant supervision.
  • Executive Presence: Ability to command a room (virtual or physical) and present high-level analytical findings to senior external clients, minimizing the need for senior management intervention on every call.
  • Specialized Financial Acumen: High proficiency in Excel with specific experience in equity research or financial modeling related to power markets, utilities, or renewable energy assets.
  • Market Research Capabilities: Demonstrated ability to perform qualitative and quantitative market research, synthesizing trends in energy consumption, regulatory shifts, and corporate sustainability goals.
  • Sector Knowledge: Demonstrated understanding of the utility business model (rate-making, ROE, capital plans) and the economics of distributed energy resources (LCOE, value of solar, demand charge management).
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with a specific talent for distilling complex data into clear, client-ready narratives.
  • Education: Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related field. CFA designation (or progress towards) is a plus.
  • Intellectual Curiosity: A self-motivated desire to understand the "edge of the grid”, how commercial entities are changing how they consume power and how utilities are adapting to serve them.
  • Software Proficiency: Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, PowerBI) or coding (Python, R) is considered a strong asset for handling complex utility and load data.
